Owner David Hawkins — known as “The Herb Doc” or “Healthy Dave” — is a Master Herbalist and Certified Nutritional Counselor who has built the store into more than just a place to shop. Under his leadership, Mother Earth Foods provides valuable educational resources, including the Highway to Health podcast on Spotify and monthly Healthy Living events that inspire and empower the Mid-Ohio Valley community.

David Hawkins, known as “The Herb Doc,” is the owner of Mother Earth Foods, West Virginia’s trusted source for whole foods and natural herbal and vitamin supplements. Alongside running the store, he continues his Herb Doc consulting practice and is a frequent speaker and teacher throughout West Virginia and Ohio. He has taught at West Virginia University’s Integrative Medicine Program and Marshall University, sharing his knowledge of natural health and wellness.
Dave began studying natural healing in the early 1970s, exploring body systems and ways to prevent disease. He practiced yoga for many years, became a vegetarian, and experimented with diet plans including fasting and macrobiotics. He also studied the energetics of food through Ayurveda, Chinese medicine, and Native American traditions.
As a past president of the West Virginia Herb Association, Dave has been a practicing herbalist for more than 45 years and developed his own product line called Earthworks. He hosts the Highway to Health podcast on Spotify and leads the Healthy Living Series, a free local program promoting holistic wellness. A West Virginia native, Dave lives near Parkersburg on Cedar Lane Farm.
